I completely agree with respecting the circle and its
purpose. The use of ganja, alcohol, or other substances
should be evaluated by the concerns others have already
raised - how are you (or the PIG?) likely to play? and is
that way going to be alright with the others in the group?

If I smoked weed (not mungwort) prior to a session, I might
be able to play ok for a loose drum circle. I might be
really creative. But if I were to try to play support for a
dance class or troupe rehearsal my head would be spinning.
In this case, I need all the coherence I can muster. Our
teacher often will surprise us with a new rhythm, some funky
new support parts, or will play a lead that has the
potential to crumble even the sharpest minds. This is on top
of the standard gray-matter short circuits that come from
playing "Pa GoTa" for an hour straight. In this case, it's
best for me to wait or be embarrassed.
